"Preach The Gospel, Plant The Church, In South East Asia"
Buol People Group

Buol Fisherman in North Sulawesi

“Buol Indah” 2011 by 2100Asri *

Country:  Indonesia

History:  The history of the Buol region is one of small kingdoms that entered into treaties with each other as the need arose.  The Buol are similar to the Gorontolo people in their culture and language.  The Minado area close to the Buol has many Christians, but the Buol remain strongly Muslim.  The Christians in the area are afraid to be bold in their witness because of persecution so the Buol people have not been evangelized.

Their Lives:  They make their living by farming rice, maize, sago, yams and grain and coconut.  They also fish.  Their marriages are usually arranged and a bride-price is paid by the groom.  The couple usually lives with the bride’s family until the first child arrives then the couple establishes their own household.  Although they follow Islam they still have some animistic beliefs.  They still believe in spirits and believe they inhabit places.  They use dukuns (witchdoctors) in sickness and in dealing with spirits.  It is difficult to get to the area where the Buol live by road so boat is usually used.  This makes them more isolated.

Population:  96,000

Location:  They live in northwest Sulawesi in the Toli-Toli regency which borders the Gorontalo province.

Language:  Buol

Religion:  Islam, 99.99%

Christian %:  <1% - 16 church members

Scriptures:  There are no scriptures in their own language and no Jesus film and no Christian broadcasts.

Missionaries:  There is one mission agency that is working among these people.

Prayer Points:

  • Pray that the Christians living near the Buol will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to develop friendships with these people and to pray for them with signs following.

  • Pray that the Lord will send more missionaries to this area to live and work among these people.

  •  Pray that the Bible will be translated into their language.

  •  Pray that the Lord will reveal himself to them in visions and dreams.

  •  Pray that the stronghold of Islam will be broken and they will have freedom to believe in Jesus.

  •  Pray that an indigenous church will be planted among the Buol.

Who?  What? Where?

"In a nutshell" as they say, SEAMIST works in South East Asia!  We plant churches in South East Asia.  We try to focus all our efforts and resources on reaching the least reached peoples in South East Asia.

What does "least reached" mean?  It simply means the people groups that have few or no workers reaching out to them, few or no churches or believers in Jesus Christ.  These would be the most needy of all people in the world!

Our workers are trained to use contextual methods to share the good news.  We just want everyone to know about Jesus!  Our goal is always to leave behind a New Testament church.
