The Indonesian national motto is "Unity In Diversity". With almost as many languages as islands (13,600) and covering an area the size of the continental US, there certainly is diversity. However, since the collapse of the authoritarian regime of Suharto in 1998, there has been anything but unity. The country stands at the edge of chaos and anarchy. Jesus alone is the answer to Indonesia's problems.

Indonesia has more Muslims than any other country in the world. Since late 1997, there has been a surge in fundamental Islamic activity that has resulted in the open persecution of Christians. Hundreds of churches have been burned, and anti-Christian / anti-Chinese hatred has surfaced everywhere. In a few cases Christians retaliated and have paid a terrible price. These are hard days in Indonesia...

Christian missionaries are restricted to working only with the existing church. The church historically has not done a lot to reach across the cultural barriers that exist between the Christian cultures and the others. While there is technically freedom of religion, it is nearly impossible for a Muslim to convert. The few who do and are discovered are punished terribly and usually have to flee to another area where they are not known. There are a few successful church plants occurring in the largest unreached groups, but dozens of unreached people groups here have not one person on site to tell them...

Our prayer for Indonesia: "Father, look at Indonesia! More than 170,000,000 Muslims are going to go to Hell unless something changes pretty soon. What can we do, Lord? Millions more Buddhists and Hindus will follow too. There are so few workers and so many people. More workers would help a lot, Lord! Give Indonesia peace so your Word can be preached and believed!

Holy Spirit, Muslims don't listen very well and the enemy has blinded them with a terrible spiritual blindness. Help Your church, and do your work of convicting the lost of sin and righteousness and judgment. Endue the saints with power to witness! Jesus, send more workers. Your missionaries there are only 1 to a million! Empower your church, Lord, and use her to reach out to this desperate nation. Extinguish fear and make your witnesses bold, let your gospel go forth in Indonesia with power and signs following. Thank You, Lord. Save Indonesia, in your Name we pray. Amen."
