The
Bengali people in Myanmar generally are immigrants from the Bengal areas
of Bangladesh and India. They come to Myanmar looking for a better
life, hoping to escape some of the poverty and hopelessness in their
homeland areas. A lot of Bengali have good educations and hold
professional positions in the cities, but many still live and work in
rural areas.
In Myanmar there are about 265,000
Bengali living in both rural areas farming and as professionals in the
cities. Their religion is about
70% Muslim and 30% Hindu. They live traditionally and
conservatively, the men doing pretty much everything outside the home and the women doing
most
everything inside. The Bengali are proud and hard working, and
seek to be well educated wherever they are.
At this time there are a few
Christians scattered among the Bengali in Myanmar, but no Bengali
churches and no known outreaches for the last few years. No known
church planting teams or even church planters are working to reach them.
There are some resources sucn as the Bengali bible and The Jesus Film.
Pray that the Lord of the Harvest
raises up and sends workers to the Bengali. Pray for the churches
in Myanmar to get a heart to reach them. Pray for an outpouring of
God's Holy Spirit that will bring revelation to the Bengali of Myanmar.
