There are more than 15,000 Dondo people living mostly
along the rivers in the Toli-toli region of Central Sulawesi, the orchid
shaped island in Indonesia. Generally they farm and fish, raising rice
on slash and burn mountain fields which have to be found anew every few
years. Their lives are somewhat typical of the more remote
tribes throughout South East Asia and in this part of Indonesia.
The area they occupy is not easily accessible, nor is
it served with modern infrastructure. The Dondo society has not changed much in the past
decades. Outside influence is minimal. Higher education
is not available to most Dondo people. Even elementary
education is difficult as the region is remote and the towns are
very small.
Most Dondo follow Islam as their religion, but
some animism is evident. There are no reported believers at this
time, no reports of workers going, and no agencies who are actively
working to reach the Dondo.
Pray for the Lord to send someone. Pray for
any Christians who come in contact with Dondo people to be prepared
and to boldly share Christ with them. Pray for the Holy Spirit
to prepare Dondo hearts and minds to receive the Lord. Pray
for a church to come to be in their area soon.
