The Gujarati originate from Gujarat State in India.
There are at least 1.6 million with significant numbers of Gujarati
in more than 24 countries. In Myanmar there are more than
33,000 Gujarati. Generally they are business people and as a
group seem to prosper wherever they go.
Most
Gujarati are Hindus, about 85% in Myanmar. The Hindu Gujarati
are generally very charitable and hard working people. Another
13% follow Islam. There are a few Gujarati Christians in
Myanmar, but no known Gujarati churches. There is a good
translation of the bible in the Gujarati language that was finished
in 2005, pray that copies become available to the people.
Pray that the few Gujarati Christians who know
Christ will be filled with the Holy Spirit and boldly witness to
their friends and families. Pray that a strong Gujarati church
is planted in Myanmar that will be a lighthouse for the gospel.
Pray for dreams and visions to open the hearts and minds of the
Gujarati people. Pray for miracles and signs to accompany the
sharing of the good news. Pray for the Lord of the Harvest to
send a team of church planters to establish a church among the
Gujarati in Myamnar.
